The Northeastern Media Association has strongly condemned the arrest of journalist Shaaiye Abdirisak Salad, who was reportedly detained by police forces in Las Anod.
The condemnation came after reports emerged that the journalist had been arrested in the city. So far, the Northeastern Police have not issued an official statement explaining the reason for his arrest or the allegations against him.
The Chairman of the Northeastern Media Association, Journalist Mukhtaar Cabdi Jaamac, condemned the detention and expressed concern over the action taken against Shaaiye Abdirisak Salad.
Shaaiye Abdirisak Salad had arrived in Las Anod only a few days before his reported arrest, where he was expected to carry out activities related to his journalistic work.
Some reports circulating suggest that his arrest may have been linked to posts he had published on his personal social media page. However, this information has not yet been officially confirmed by the police or any other relevant authority.
The Northeastern Media Association has called for the protection of press freedom and the safety of journalists, while urging the security authorities to clarify the circumstances surrounding the journalist’s detention.
Chairman Mukhtaar Cabdi Jaamac also stressed the importance of allowing journalists to carry out their professional duties while respecting the applicable laws and regulations.
